
There was strong Lagan Valley support for the inaugral meeting of the Middel and Distance Northern Ireland Track Stars (MAD NITS) at MAry Peters Track on 11th August. From two of our youngest members Ryan Sharke and Conall Kirk both 9 to one of our oldest Terry Eakin there were some great performances. Best performance of the night went to Wendy Davis who smashed her personal best and finally broke 2 mins 10 secs to jump to 13th on the Northern Irleand Womens All Time List. As far as the women were concerned the race of the day was the 1500 metres which was won by Wendy with Catriona third both producing massive personal bests. There were also PB's produced by Lynsey (Shot/Hammer) Mandy (100H) Chris Quinn (400) Michelle Harvey (Jav) Cathy Reavy (400) and Laura (TJ).
ULSTER SCHOOLS 2005
Anna Rainey was the club's most successful individual at the Ulster Schools Cross Country Finals at Mallusk. Running in the Intermediate Girls 3000 metres race she was always in contention in a group of four. On the fast downhill slope on the last lap she hit the lead and finished a clear winner. The Lagan Valley Senior Women returned to the Coleraine University campus and successfully defended the Senior Cross Country Title which they have won for the last two years. The team of Jill Shannon, Suzannne McCormick, Maria Skelton and Catriona McCorkell were ably supported by Julie Murphy , Rona Harkens, Wendy Davis, Sarah Quee, Ruth Magill and Hazel Hunter. Seamus Melanophy showed he is getting back to fitness with a solid run in the Senior Men's race.
Terry Eakin and Fionulla McCourt became the clubs first Northern Ireland Champions for 2005 when they won their respective age groups in the Northern Ireland Veteran's Championships at bangor on Saturday last. Terry had a magnificent run beating not only those in his own category but also all those in the two age groups younger than him. Anna Rainey also had a great run in the Under 20 Championships. Still only 15 she finished in the Silver Medal position. There was another Silver medal for Ruth Magill in her age group category. The Junior team of Anna, Sarah Quee, Catherine Reavey and Patricia Brady won the bronze team medals.
